Which One Suits Which Fan

K-Pop Square Hongdae is the pick for a late evening, since it closes at 22:00. It also hosts pop-ups and exhibitions, and its floor 2 carries BT21, IVE and NCT DREAM merch. KWANGYA@Seoul is SM's flagship store and entry is free.

It is closed on Lunar New Year's Day and Chuseok, and closures are posted on Instagram, so check there on a public holiday.

K-Pop Square Hongdae

Visit Seoul calls it Korea's specialised K-pop store. It stands at 141 Yanghwa-ro, Mapo-gu, about 145 m from Hongik Univ. Station Exit 1. That station serves Line 2, AREX and the Gyeongui-Jungang line. The walk takes about 2 minutes.

The store was formerly the LINE FRIENDS store. Floor 1 hosts pop-up events. Floor 2 carries BT21, IVE and NCT DREAM merch. It opens 11:00-22:00 every day.

Hongdae Opening Times

Many Hongdae merch shops open late, at 11 AM or 1 PM. Arriving at 10 AM means standing outside locked doors. Start the Hongdae leg after lunch and keep K-Pop Square for last, since it closes at 22:00.

Getting There

The store is on B1F at 83-21 Wangsimni-ro, Seongdong-gu. It is 73 m from Seoul Forest Station Exit 5 on the Suin-Bundang Line. Entry is free. Opening at 10:30, it is the earliest of the three listed stores, which makes it a good first stop.

Check Instagram before you go, since that is where closures are posted. Visit Seoul does not say whether the rest of the SM building is open to the public. The SM Entertainment building page covers what fans can see outside the store.

COEX K-POP Square

The square lies at 513 Yeongdong-daero, Gangnam-gu, under the COEX Artium LED facade with the 3D WAVE artwork. The screen shows K-pop and Hallyu content. Bongeunsa Station Exit 7 (Line 9) is 13 m away.

Samseong Station Exit 6 (Line 2) is 274 m away. Visit Seoul lists no opening hours, and Visit Gangnam lists it as open 24 hours and free. Netflix also names it among 9 real Seoul places in KPop Demon Hunters, covered on the KPop Demon Hunters locations page.

KPOP STORE in Seocho-gu

KPOP STORE gives its address as 4F, 2419, Nambusunhwan-ro, Seocho-gu, Seoul. It sells through its website and ships worldwide. Its site lists no walk-in hours, so treat it as an online order rather than a shop to drop into on a 1-day visit.

Hongdae as a Shopping Street

K-Pop Square Hongdae is about 145 m from Hongik Univ. Station Exit 1. The surrounding merch shops open later, at 11 AM or 1 PM, so the street fills from the afternoon. K-Pop Square stays open until 22:00, which makes Hongdae the area for an evening walk.

Visit Seoul's hallyu page lists tour courses including K-Pop Square Hongdae and COEX K-POP Square. It filters them by region, such as Hongdae, Gangnam, Jamsil and Itaewon. The Tourist Information Center helpline is 1330 if you need directions in English.

Myeongdong and HiKR Ground

Myeongdong is best right after shops open, at 10 AM to 11 AM. Bring your passport for tax-free shopping. HiKR Ground at 40 Cheonggyecheon-ro is a free K-culture complex about 2 minutes from Jonggak Station Exit 5.

It is closed on Mondays and last admission is 20 minutes before close. Its K-POP Ground lets visitors film music-video-style clips.

Shops in Myeongdong offer tax-free shopping when you show your passport, so keep it on you for the whole day. KWANGYA@Seoul and K-Pop Square Hongdae charge no entry, so browsing costs nothing.
